Ernakulam enters final

THODUPUZHA: Defending champion Ernakulam defeated Kozhikode 3-1 and entered the final of the third Kerala State under-14 inter-district football championship at the St George School Ground, Muthalakudam, on Saturday evening.

Kozhikode went into the lead, through Adish, in the 21st minute but it was all Ernakulam after that.

Mohammed Jalal (34th minute), Ronald Xavier (43rd) and Abhilash Srinivasan (69th) scored for the defending champion.

Ernakulam, mainly made up of boys from the Panampilly Nagar Sports Academy and Don Bosco (Vaduthala), will

meet Thiruvananthapuram in Sunday’s final.

Kozhikode triumphs

Kozhikode won the North Zone (under-13) inter-district cricket championship, beating Kannur by eight wickets at the Medical College Ground at Kozhikode here on Friday.

The host finished with eight points, winning all its matches. Kannur, with four points, finished runner-up.

The scores:

Kannur 53 in 24.2 overs (Pranav four for seven, Jigendra Jadhav three for 17) lost to Kozhikode 54 for two in 26.4 overs.Wayanad 52 in 22 overs (Iquas five for 29) lost to Malappuram 53 for 3 three in 30.2 overs.

Prudential scores win

Prudential CC and MGP Academy recorded wins in the 5th Santosh Menon memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament at Thrissur on Saturday.

Prudentical CC defeated Kunnamkulam cc by two wickets while MPG Cricket Academy defeated Palakkad DCA by 32 runs.

The scores:

Kunnamkulam CC 158 in 24.5 overs (Francis 43, Deepu three for 14) lost to Prudential CC 160 for eight in 24.4 overs (Shanawas 53 n.o.)

MPG Cricket Academy 218 in 29.4 overs (Ranzeeb 58, Hansen 40, Abdul Samad 40) bt Palakkad DCA 186 in 25.4 overs (Krishnachandran 36, Hamsa three for 18, Ajay three for 49).

National School Games

The second National School Games (group II) featuring competitions in football, volleyball, table tennis, wrestling and weightlifting will be held in Thiruvananthapuram from December 24 to 27.

The competitions will be held in under-16 section for boys and girls.

More than 2500 sportspersons are expected to take part in the four-day meet.

An organising committee with Sports Minister, M. Vijayakumar, as chairman has been formed.

Alappuzha wins

Alappuzha won the South Zone under-13 inter-district cricket title after recording its fourth consecutive win at the MG University ground at Kottayam here on Saturday.

Alappuzha trounced Kollam by seven wickets to finish with an all-win record.

In another match at the St. Ephrem’s school ground, Pathanamthitta, defeated host Kottayam by eight wickets.

The scores:

Kollam 122 in 25 overs (Ashok Chandran three for 14, Nandakumar three for 18) lost to Alappuzha 113 for three in 23 overs (Jishnu Raj 33 n.o., Balu Babu 31 n.o.).

Kottayam 102 in 31.3 overs (Jishnu S. Vasudev four for 27) lost to Pathanamthitta 106 for two in 24.3 overs (Prashob R. Pillai 39).
