Kakinada: The Department of Factories (DoF) has sent a proposal for setting up an emergency control centre (ECC) in Kakinada to tackle industrial accidents. The rising number of industries coming in and around this port city and the possibility of a spurt in the industrial accidents, has made it essential to set up the facility, according to Director of Factories R Koteswara Rao. Addressing a workshop on Industrial Safety and Occupational Health jointly organised by the DoF and Godavari Environment, Health and Safety Association (Godavari EHS Assn.) at NFCL Club on Saturday, Mr. Koteswara Rao said industrial development potential of Kakinada was immense and there was a need to draft long-term plans. The proposed ECC was aimed at reducing the rate of accidents in the industries. Mr. Rao said Kakinada assumed greater significance in the industrial sector after Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam due to the Special Economic Zone and other major industries in the city. Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories (Kakinada-II) K Parameswara Rao, Glaxo Smithkline Healthcare Limited General Manager Sarath Raghava Rao, retired joint chief inspector of factories and Godavari EHS Assn. founder A Suryanarayana spoke.
