NEW DELHI: To promote public awareness on social issues, Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti organised a special conclave for children at its Tees January Marg premises here earlier this week. “Children’s Social Conclave” saw participation of children from various schools of Delhi. They spoke their minds on issues related to environment and the efforts they are making to create awareness on global warming, pollution, water and sanitation. Besides 10 schools, volunteer groups from non-government organisations such as Kalyanaam, Ashray Adhikar Abhiyan and Bal Panchayat took part in the conclave. The representatives of the NGOs also put up stalls to highlight the work they are doing. The three judges -- NCERT’s P. K. Mandal, National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is director A.K. Merchant, and journalist N. R. Mohanty -- interacted with the students to find out about their activities . St. Mary’s School, Dwarka, took home the Satyagraha Running Trophy and also cash prizes and books. Students from St. Paul’s School, Hauz Khas, were the first runners-up and Mother Teresa School, Preet Vihar, second runners-up. Special appreciation prizes were awarded to Green Fields Public School, Safdarjung Enclave; Bharti Public School, Swasthya Vihar; and Gyan Mandir Public School, Naraina.
