THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chairman of the State Tourism Development Corporation Cheriyan Philip said on Saturday that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s demand for land at the upper sanatorium area of Ponmudi was ill-intentioned. In a statement here, the Chairman said that ISRO had repeated the demand even after Chief Secretary P. J. Thomas clarified that no land could be given at the upper sanatorium area. The government had already allotted 100 acres for the campus of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology of ISRO. However, ISRO was making fresh demands either with a plan to abort the project or purchase the land at the Merchiston estate, the KTDC chairman said. He said that the land given by the government was suitable for setting up an observatory and other facilities for the Institute. If the facilities were set up at the upper sanatorium area, the investments made by the Corporation to upgrade the tourist resort at Ponmudi would go waste.
