Travelling show begins at Orissa Art Gallery

BHUBANESWAR: Showcasing the reflections of the realities of life in rural India, ‘Earth Bound’, a travelling exhibition of photographs has been mounted at the Orissa Modern Art Gallery here being hosted by Germany’s voluntary organisation German Agro Action (GAA) in association with its partners in six Indian states besides the Bangalore-based art consultant Jackfruit Research and Design. The week-long show that would be on till December 14 presents a large number of classic photos in black and white taken from the states of Orissa, West Bengal, Rajashtan, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Karnataka by Clare Arni who has candidly captured the beautiful bond that exists between the people and land and water.

The travelling show, that has already been mounted in Bangalore, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur and Mumbai, brings glimpses of rural life to the urban audience.

It also shows how rural development initiatives are being implemented in these regions with GAA’s collaborative organisations - Sikshya Sandhan in Orissa, Rama Krishna Mission in West Bengal, Social Centre for Rural Initiative and Advancement in Rajasthan, Chaitanya Shravanti in Andhra Pradesh, MYRADA in Karnataka and Swadhina in Jharkhand.

Clare Arni is a British photographer who has lived most of her life in Madurai and Bangalore.

She works as an architectural and travel photographer, informed GAA’s regional director for South Asia Bernhard Hoeper. Eminent educationist Professor Sarbeswar Dash inaugurated the event.
