CUTTACK: More than 5000 surgeons from across the country and outside would meet in the capital city of Bhubaneswar from December 25 to 30 to discuss the various facets and latest research in the field of surgery. The surgeons would meet to observe the 67th annual conference of the Association of Surgeons of India, said the organising secretary of the conference P. K. Mallick. Speaking to newsmen here on Saturday, Prof. Mallick said the State is organising the national conference for the third time during the past seven decades of its formation. Previously it was organised in Cuttack in 1974 and 1994. “This time we have decided to hold the conference in Bhubaneswar instead of Cuttack as the thousand-year-old city has become unsuitable to hold such a major conference in which some 6000 delegates would participate”, Prof Mallick, who is now heading surgery department of SCB Medical College , said. Organising chairman of the conference A. K. Mishra said the conference would discuss surgical education in India, management of critically ill surgical patients and emerging technologies of surgery. The State chapter of ASI is hosting the conference.
