Roundtable asks BC bodies to unite

HYDEBABAD: A roundtable conference organised here on Saturday by the Backward Classes Joint Action Committee called for unity among various BC organisations, so as to build up pressure on the Government for securing the demands of the community. The demands included political power in proportion to their population of 50 p.c.

The convention also urged political parties, both existing and proposed, to pave the way for BCs to achieve their ten-year-old ambition of becoming State Chief Minister by allotting 150 Assembly seats to candidates belonging to various BC communities.

While pressing for continued protection of BC reservation rights, the convention opposed inclusion of Kapus in the list of BCs without the approval of the Andhra Pradesh Commission for Backward classes. It wanted those who intend to join politics not to raise inclusion of the Kapus in the BCs list.

T. Bala Goud, former MP and convener, chaired the conference. It was addressed by Bandaru Dattatretaya, State BJP president, Socialist leader Keshav Rao Jadav, legislators Pithani Satyanarayana (Cong) and Etela Rajender (TRS), B.S.A. Swamy, former judge of the High Court, academician K.Srinivasulu, D. Chinamallayya, former MLA, Murali Mohan, professor of Kakatiya University, Sundarayya Yadav, former BSP president, and Simhadri, and Nanumasa Swamy, both of Osmania University.
