Even her children were not allowed to see her HAVERI: A woman who had been locked up in a room by her husband for nearly four years at Doddahalli village in Hirekerur taluk of Haveri district, allegedly for getting a share in her father’s property, has finally been freed. Now the police have arrested three persons in connection with the lock up and remanded them to judicial custody. The names of the arrested are Rangappa Madiwalar, his mother Hiriyavva and sister Anasuya. According to police sources, Rangappa had married Vanajakshamma, daughter of Bhairappa Madiwalar of Kalagond village 20 years ago and the couple had three children. Trouble started after Rangappa demanded a share in Bhairappa’s property, which was denied to him. Allegedly, in attempt to pressurise Bhairappa to give him the share, Rangappa started torturing his wife. His mother and sister supported him. Finally, they locked up Vanajakshamma in a room and even her children were not allowed to see her, the police revealed. The incident came to light after Bhairappa finally dumped Vanajakshamma (45) in front of her father’s house on Wednesday night. After learning about her tale, her father approached the Hirekerur police, and based on his complaint, a case has been registered. Meanwhile, Legal Adviser of the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Hema Bellur, has also registered a case against Rangappa and others.
