BJP seeks action against Sonia

Sends letter to Election Commission

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat unit of BJP, in an open letter to the Election Commission, on Saturday sought action against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party leader Digvijay Singh, following its complaint to the constitutional body on December 2..

In an open letter, published in vernacular newspapers, Jayantilal S Barot, State BJP general secretary, the BJP said, “the entire country and the BJP as a complainant want to know as to why the Election Commission has not so far taken any action against Sonia and Singh.”

The complaint comes in the wake of the remarks made by Sonia Gandhi at a rally in south Gujarat, where she referred to the State government as “merchants of death”.

The letter sought action against Ms. Sonia, Mr. Digvijay Singh who spoke about the “existence of Hindu terrorism in Gujarat” recently.

Mr. Barot said that while, the notice issued to Chief Minister Narendra Modi (for his alleged remarks justifying the encounter of Soharabuddin) was publicised through the media, no steps were taken on the BJP’s complaint against Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Singh.

“This only goes on to create an impression that the conduct of elections is not independent and impartial,” the letter said. — PTI
