Coir processing attracts foreigners

Variety: At the coir fair.

Kochi: More than 100 foreign delegates, including those for Commonwealth countries, visited the India International Coir Fair-2007 at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor, on Saturday, the second day of the fair.

According to a Coir Board press release, over 100 domestic buyers also visited the fair.

The delegates showed keen interest in the live demonstrations of coir pith processing, green house and various other processes.

There will be two seminars on ‘Marketing and Social Issues in the Export-Oriented Coir Sector’ on Sunday. The seminar will be inaugurated by Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Minister for Rural Industries, Tamil Nadu, at 10 a.m. Seshkumar Puilipaka,

Joint- Secretary, Ministry of MS&ME, will deliver the key note address. Academics from reputed institutions like International Institute of Natural Fibres, Poland; Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, scientists from various research institutes like Advanced Materials and Process Research Institute, Bhopal, and Central Coir Research Institute, Alappuzha, will present papers on technical subjects for three days from Sunday at various sessions. Exporters, leading importers from Germany, the U.K. and the U.S. and representatives of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, service providers like BVQI, DHL will also participate.

The fair will be open to the public between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday.
