Parents and teachers joined in to entertain their children and students during the cultural programmes held to celebrate Parents’ Day at Devagiri CMI Public School here on Saturday. Christmas and Bakrid celebrations were also held along with Parents’ Day. District Collector A. Jayathilak, who was the chief guest, said skills required for the job market had changed with the opening up of the Indian economy. In the past, academic excellence ensured decent jobs. However, now the service sector had taken over the industry. Soft skills were what were important. Communication skills and the ability to get along with others were needed the most in today’s world. He said the present day job market was delinked from degrees. A slight push in the right direction would help the students to excel, he said. ‘Santa Claus’ presented the Christmas gift to Mr. Jayathilak. Fr. John Mannarathara, Principal, welcomed the audience and the chief guest. Western dance, carols by students, semi-classical dance, Gujarati and Punjabi dance by teachers, and oppana and western dance by parents marked the cultural programme.
