Staff Reporter

39 new publishers to take part this year

Quiz programmes will be conducted everyday

PUDUCHERRY: Thirty-nine new publishers will take part in the 10-day National Book Fair to be held here from December 17 to 26.

“We got feedback from book lovers as well as publishers last year and have implemented most of their good suggestions. This is our 11th year and we are bringing in 68 publishers with over 60,000 titles in languages including Tamil, English, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu and Bengali. We are also ensuring that only education-related stalls are put up in the fair at Vel Sokkanathan Thirumana Nilayam,” Panch Ramalingam, one of the directors of the Puducherry Co-operative Book Society, which is organising the fair, told reporters on Sunday.

M.K. Sayeekumari, president of the society said: “Chief Minister N. Rangasamy will inaugurate the fair on December 17 at 10 a.m. We are offering discounts from 10 per cent on all purchases and a special discount for large buyers like educational institutions and libraries. A discount of 25 per cent would be offered on select books. Arrangements have been made for purchases through credit card as well.”

Society secretary G. Murugan said publishers from Puducherry would be able to display their books at the stall of the Co-operative book society free of cost.

A total of 11 publishers from Puducherry and 43 Tamil publishers have evinced interest to participate in the fair.

Quiz programmes would be conducted on all days. The fair would be open on working days from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on holidays and weekends from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m..

The Puducherry Co-operative Book Society was founded in 1996 with the sole aim of publishing and selling books and conducting exhibitions in Puducherry.
