TV anchor Swati They created waves, earned a fan following that could put some of the big screen personalities to envy and given their charm and flair, appeared set for a long inning on the tube. But after some promising times, these beauties for reasons best known to them lost their position as happening stars of the small screen simply faded away from the memory of viewers.*Colours’ on Maa TV saw anchor Swathi scale a stardom that is rare for those from telly. With an impish smile and bubbly presentation, she zoomed to the top of popularity and gave jitters to the ones who till then thought themselves to be indispensable at the top of charts. The young anchor had everything laid out for her to endure success on the telly but apparently had other things on her mind. She moved out and the last she was spotted was on the big screen in Venkatesh starrer ‘Adavari Matalaku ...’. Swathi Maitreyi, who hosted a music-based show ‘Padamani Nannu Adagavalena’ on Gemini and Teja with certain aplomb, too appears out of reckoning these days. The show was a great hit with all sections and her ease with music and presentation style was too endearing to ignore for viewers. She was later seen on Maa with ‘Telusa Manasa’ but then gave way to others in the music-show category. However, none who followed could recreate her magic and the void is too clear to be filled. And where is Surekha Vani? The cheery beauty was a clear winner with her show ‘Moguds & Pellams’ and neither she could weave the same sparkle with other shows nor others who stepped into her shoes for the programme could do the same. Both the concept and the anchor slowly moved out from the glare at the top. Same is the case of Sree Gowri of ‘Siri’ fame, Anupama who whistled her way to top whistling with ‘Kotha Cinema Guru’ and ‘Kya Scene Hai’, Preeti Nigam who figured in a series of serials that turned popular and not to forget Anitha Chowdhury. _ T.Lalith Singh
