CRPF jawan found dead

An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of his death

Srinagar: A Central Reserve Police Force jawan was on Sunday found dead in his barracks on the outskirts of the city with a bullet injury, prompting the force to order a court of inquiry to investigate the cause of death.

Constable Gurpreet Singh of 137th battalion was found dead on his bed in his barracks at the National Institute of Technology at Hazratbal this morning, CRPF spokesman P. Tripathy told PTI.

A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of his death, he said, adding the inquiry would see whether the jawan committed “suicide” or his death was a result of accidental fire. Singh had joined the CRPF in 2001.

A police spokesman said a case has been registered and inquest proceedings initiated to ascertain the cause of his death. PTI
