Drive against unhygienic meat stalls planned

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: The Kancheepuram district administration will launch a drive against meat stalls operating in unhygienic condition at Pallavaram and other localities from where cases of people being affected by acute diarrhoeal disorders (ADD) were reported recently.

Talking to reporters on Friday evening, Kancheepuram Collector Santhosh K. Misra said nearly 40 cases of people with ADD in and around Pallavaram were reported since Monday. Investigations revealed that it was owing to consumption of stale fish, poultry or meat. He said water supplied through pipelines by Pallavaram Municipality was tested at the King Institute, Guindy. Tests confirmed that it was safe and potable. The district administration and Municipality would launch a drive against meat stalls not maintained in a hygienic manner.
