‘Send action plan to upgrade roads’

Belgaum: Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajasekharan has asked the district administration to come out with an action plan to improve roads to make them weather-proof.

He advised the authorities to accord priority to complete all relief works in the areas affected by floods and drought in the district.

Reviewing progress in relief works and other development works in the district at the Circuit House here on Sunday, he said the administration should take steps to upgrade the roads to overcome floods and incessant rainfall.

He said that the Centre would consider a request for special allocation of funds for development of roads from Central Road Development Fund and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.

He asked the district administration to submit a detailed report to the Centre in this regard.

Regional Commissioner Amita Prasad urged the Minister to take steps to meet the requirement of additional train services in Belgaum. Deputy Commissioner M.E. Shivalingamurthy urged the Centre to release Rs. 206 crore to complete relief works in the district.
