PERAMBALUR: Two special courts will be set up at Jayamkondam to handle disputes on land acquisition for the Jayamkondam Lignite Power Project (JLPP), Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications A. Raja said on Sunday.

Inaugurating the District Police Office (DPO) here, he said that as part of expediting the preliminary works for the execution of the project, the disputes over compensation would be sorted out through the special courts by the year-end.

Mr. Raja said the site had been identified for setting up a Special Economic Zone in Perambalur at an outlay of Rs.5,000 crore. About 500 acres had been acquired and registered at an estimated cost of Rs.10 crore.

The MRF would start the civil works for its Rs.900-crore manufacturing unit in the district within a couple of months as a major part of the 350 acres required for the project had been acquired. Work on laying a ring road at an estimated cost of Rs.25 crore would start in six months. Land for the purpose was being acquired.

Chief Judicial Magistrate S. Ramathilagam said the DPO would ensure a good working environment for police personnel. She called upon them to take steps for prevention of crimes and ensuring peace and law and order.

Presiding over the function, Inspector-General of Police, Central Zone, I. Raja said the DPO would be a landmark building in the district.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tiruchi Range, Ashok Kumar Das appreciated the technical and architectural skills of the engineers of Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation in executing the project.

He said the district registered a record cent per cent detection of cases, the latest being the arrest of those involved in the murder of watchmen at the Siruvachur Sri Mathura Kaliamman temple. Steps were on to divert the police personnel to the newly formed Ariyalur district following the bifurcation of Permabalur district last month.

Collectors of Perambalur and Ariyalur, Anil Meshram and V. M. Xavier Chrisso Nayagam, Superintendents of Police Prem Anand Sinha and Muthusamy, MLAs M. Rajkumar, S. Sankar and D. Amaramoorthy were among those who participated.
