Thiruvananthapuram: The Energy Management Centre (EMC) has announced its 11th State Energy Conservation Awards in seven categories. Hindustan Newsprint Limited, Kottayam, won the award in the category of large-scale enterprises in appreciation of their reduction in specific electricity consumption. The company achieved a saving of Rs.112.4 lakh by implementing various energy conservation measures. NTPC Limited, Alappuzha; MRF Limited, Kottayam; Appollo Tyres Limited, Thrissur and Le Meridien Resorts and Convention Centre, Kochi, shared the commendation certificate in the same category. The commendation certificate in the category of middle-level industrial enterprises was shared by Hindustan Latex Limited, Aakkulam and Milma Dairy, Kannur. The Marari Beach Resort, Alappuzha, was the award-winner in the category of small-scale industries due to its systematic implementation of water harvesting and waste management measures. Ammini Energy Systems won the commendation certificate in the small-scale industries’ category for its research and development (R&D) activities and popularisation of solar power plants and energy-conserving lamps. In the category of non-profit organisations, Biotech won the award for its installation of family-size and institutional biogas plants and popularisation of waste-to-energy plants. Jyothi Biogas and Rural Social Service Centre, working in the same field, won commendation certificates in this category. Safe Guard Industries, Poovathur, a firm engaged in the replacement of conventional lighting with LED lighting and solar lighting systems, won the commendation certificate in the category of Research and Innovation. Individuals were also given awards. V.K. Adarsh of Kollam won the award in this category while Saji Prasad of Vamanapuram won the commendation certificate for his efforts and contribution towards the dissemination of energy conservation ideas. In the category of Public Buildings, BSNL Electrical Circle, Thiruvananthapuram, was adjudged the winner. The awards will be presented in the capital on December 14.
