‘Centre to include Mohali under JNURM’

Mohali (Punjab): The Centre will include this township under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewable Mission and has approved an outlay of Rs 307 crore to upgrade existing infrastructure and ensure planned development.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who inaugurated the annual Fete ‘Vibes 07’ at St. Soldier School here, told reporters that 50 per cent of the entire project cost would be borne by the Centre and the remainder by the State Government.

He said Rs 27 crore has been released and placed at the disposal of Municipal Council Mohali and the remaining Rs 280 crore would be released soon.

The Municipal Council has formulated proposals to the tune of Rs 360 crore for this town under the Urban Renewabale Mission, including a local transit system connecting Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula (mono rail/city bus service) and increased water supply, installation of sewage treatment plant among others.
