For a safe future: Polio drops being administered to newborns at the inauguration of the drive by Governor Rameshwar Thakur in Bangalore on Sunday. Bangalore: Calling upon parents to participate in the pulse polio drive for the better future of their children, Governor Rameshwar Thakur said that the objectives behind organising such health programmes is to demonstrate our commitment to the promotion of public health and the development of a healthy society. He was speaking after inaugurating the special pulse polio drive organised by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, Bangalore Rural and Ramanagar district administrations here on Sunday. Emphasising that eradication of polio was a national resolve, he said that administration of polio drops was the simple method to prevent and counter a polio attack. The special health programmes would reaffirm the future of the country and humanity also, Mr. Thakur said. The Principal Secretary to the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Usha Ganesh, said that the government had established 4,350 units, including 246 mobile units, and pressed into service 18, 320 volunteers in Bangalore Rural and Ramanagar districts for administering polio drops. The government was planning to cover 13.3 lakh children, in the age group of five years and below, under the programme, she added.
