THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chinese film ‘Getting Home’ directed by Zhang Yang was the centre of attraction on the third day of the ongoing International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) on Sunday. The film is a gentle slice-of-life tracing the odyssey undertaken by a man to fulfil a debt of friendship. It is a simple story of carrying a dead friend home. The main character, while carrying the body of his friend, meets all kinds of people in his journey. This film successfully portrays the best and the worst of human nature. In all, 43 films were screened at the festival on Sunday. Films related to India such as ‘Gandhi My Father,’ ‘Paradesi’ and ‘AKG’ drew substantial crowd. Screening of the legendary Malayalam film ‘Neelakkuyil’ and an exhibition of photographs on its director, the late P. Bhaskaran, were some of the important events of the day. The Mexican film ‘Turtle Family’ by Ruben Imaz and the Portuguese film ‘Sleepwalking’ by Teresa Puenzo also drew huge audience. Another interesting one was the Argentinean film ‘18 J’ which was an anthology produced by 18 young directors. The films from the Balkan package ‘Mirage’ and ‘Border Post’ and the film ‘Harder They Come’ which formed part of the Caribbean package were hotly debated among those who were interested in the politics of cinema. The jury film ‘Circle’ (directed by Jafer Panahi, Iran) was another attraction.
