Police, Maoists exchange fire
Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM: Police and Maoists exchanged fire near Yedukalammakonda under Pampa police station limits in Koyyuru mandal on Saturday night.
No one was injured in the gun battle which continued for sometime, Superintendent of Police Akun Sabharwal said on Sunday. A .303 rifle, and kit bags were found from the site of the encounter. The incident took place two kilometres away from the site where three Maoists were killed in an encounter on Wednesday. Tension gripped the agency tracts in the district with the police and the Maoists indulging in shootouts for past few days. A police constable was seriously injured in a landmine blast on Thursday while shifting the bodies of Maoists.
He was flown to the city for treatment in a corporate hospital. As part of a two-day economic blockade programme, Maoists damaged the control room of Hygrade Pellet ’s slurry pipeline at Lambasingi near Chintapalle on Friday night.
