Need for quality higher education: Ponmudy
Special Correspondent
TIRUCHI: The State Government was committed to providing access to higher education to more youths without losing focus on quality, K.Ponmudy, Minister for Higher Education, has said.
Statistics indicate that only seven per cent of the country’s youth, in the age group of 14 to 25, had access to higher education. “In Tamil Nadu, we want to increase the numbers and enhance the quality as well,” he said delivering the Graduation Day address at the St.Joseph’s College here.
Seven government arts colleges have been started in the State in the past 18 months and 20 engineering colleges would be started next year. The government has appointed 975 teachers for the arts and science colleges and 1065 teachers would be recruited.
