dated December 10, 1957: India’s unity

Prime Minister Nehru denounced the ‘new cry’ raised in the South of “Northern imperialism, Hindi imperialism and Northern India trying to dominate over the South”, as “another variation of the attempt to create trouble and to divide and disrupt India”. Mr. Nehru, who was addressing a mammoth public meeting in Dindigul on December 8 on his way from Gandhigram to Tiruchirappalli, pointed out how they had to achieve economic prosperity in the context of a fast progressing world. If they were not united and strong they would fail to advance, he said.
