THODUPUZHA: Ernakulam defeated Thiruvananthapuram by a solitary goal and retained the Kerala State under-14 inter-district football title at the St. George School Ground, Muthalakudam, on Sunday evening. Akhil Joseph, the under-13 international from Girinagar Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, scored the winner in the 65th minute after being put through by Ronald Xavier. Earlier, Kozhikode defeated Pathanamthitta 4-3, via the tie-breaker, and finished third. The teams were goalless at the end of the regulation period. Ismail, Haroon Lathif, Abhilash and Nafad converted for Kozhikode in the tie-breaker while only Anandu S. Kumar, Bhavin and Akhil Rajan were successful for Pathanamthitta. K.P.Sunny, the Kerala Football Association Secretary, gave away the prizes. Best player awards: Kevin V. Thomas (Pathanathita, goalkeeper), Sane Mohammed (Pathanamthitta, defender), Mohamed Jilal (Ernakulam, midfielder), R. Shiju (Thiruvananthapuram, forward). Promising players: Riyad, Jude James (both Idukki) & Vibin (Thiruvananthapuram).
