Walsh’s clinic ‘fruitful’

BANGALORE: J.D. Walsh, the noted coach of the J.D. Walsh Basketball School (New York), held a clinic for State coaches at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Saturday.

About 40 coaches and technical officials, besides an equal number of players, attended the clinic which the KSBA President K. Govindaraj termed a “fruitful one.”

Walsh also watched an exhibition match between the Karnataka ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams and gave tips to the players on proper utilisation of ball possession, shooting and defence. Walsh also had discussions with Govindaraj and the National coach, Aleksandr Bucan.

Ronak nets twice

Bentex defeated Sporting Youths 3-0 in the BDFA ‘C’ division football tournament at the Army Base Workshop grounds here on Sunday.

Ronak Shah netted a brace (24th and 63rd) while the other scorer was Vijwal (44th).

In another tie, Bangalore Blues beat Bangalore Red 2-0. Kiran and Andrews were the scorers.

Junior badminton team

A nine-member Karnataka team will participate in the National junior (under-19) badminton championship, scheduled to be held at Nellore from December 20 to 27.

The teams: Boys: Aditya R. Prakash, Prakash Jolly (singles), Anup Kiran and Prateek Khurna (doubles).

Girls: V. Ruth Misha, Ashwini Ponnappa, Ankita Ashok and Monisha Vinayak. Ashwini and Nitya Sosale to play doubles.

Officials: Ramakrishna (coach) and Chander Kulkarni (manager).

VIE 2008

Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College will conduct its annual all-India invitation sports meet ‘VIE 2008’ from January 6 to 8, 2008, in the following disciplines: cricket, hockey, basketball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, athletics, volleyball and snooker. Entries close on December 20.
