Thiruvananthapuram: The traffic police here have initiated action against 2501 persons found riding two-wheelers without wearing helmets last week. As many as 257 four-wheeler drivers were booked for not wearing seat belts during a drive carried out in the north and south traffic sub-divisions. Action was also initiated by the traffic police against 35 motorists for drunk driving. The police also took action against 270 motorists for various other traffic offences. Assistant Commissioner, Traffic, North, K.S. Sreekumar, in a release, said the traffic wing intensified the drive as part of the steps to reduce road accidents in the capital. In addition, the traffic police personnel posted at various traffic points had been asked to note down the registration number of motor vehicles that violated traffic rules. Action would be taken against erring motorists after collecting the registration particulars of the vehicle from the Regional Transport Office, he said. The Assistant Commissioner urged those riding two-wheelers to use helmets and those driving four wheelers seat belts.
