Maestros at work: Kadri Gopalnath and Ronu Majumdar performing as part of Airtel Bengalooru Habba 2007, at Palace Grounds on Sunday. BANGALORE: It was a fitting finale for the Airtel Bengalooru Habba where Carnatic music was in a perfect blend with Hindustani. The saxophone-flute jugalbandi by the maestros in the respective discipline — Kadri Gopalnath and Ronu Majumdar — mesmerised the audience at Palace Grounds on Sunday evening. The event was followed by a stunning performance of Bollywood extravaganza by Sukhvinder and others. Unlike the other days of the habba, Bangaloreans thronged the venue in large numbers. The maestros began the jugalbandi by rendering Vaataapi Ganapatim to invoke the blessings of Ganesha. The audience gave a thunderous applause from where the doyens went on to render excellent compositions. In their zeal to outwit each other, they offered the audience the best of their talents. The compositions included Vaishnava Janato, Venkatachala nilayam and other compositions. P. Hari Kumar on mridangam, Bangalore Rajashekhara on morcing and Durgaprasad Majumdar on pakwaz offered an adept backing to the maestros. Pandit Rajendranath Majumdar, popularly known as Ronu Majumdar, has been the heartthrob of the younger generation. Vidwan Kadri Gopalanath initially was on nadaswaram and attracted by saxophone, a western music instrument, adapted it to Carnatic music. Later, the audience danced to the tunes of Sukhvinder who rendered a good number of popular Hindi numbers.
