Chess to go ‘live’ at indoor stadium
Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chess has never been perceived as a spectator game. But a ‘live’ match to be played at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium on Monday could change that perception. Jointly organised by the Department of Sports, Russian Cultural Centre and the Abraham Memorial High School, Thirumala, the event is designed to re-enact a match between Grandmasters Alexander Alekhine and Emanuel Lasker 73 years ago in Zurich. It will coincide with the 115th birth anniversary of Alekhine who won the famed match. The game will feature children as chessmen on a huge board measuring 24 ft on either side.
