Advice to RTC authorities

Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) authorities are introducing new city services every now and then and withdrawing them without much notice. As the officials are not keen on publicising the new services in the media, many people are unaware of the availability of new services. The authorities, however, are withdrawing the services on the grounds that there is poor patronage for these services from commuters. Though the services are enough within One Town and Two Town, there are not many services connecting these two areas. I request the authorities of the APSRTC to introduce new services between the two areas and publicise the new services for the convenience of people.

Encourage local talent

Eminent personalities in music field are conducting ‘Thyagaraja aaradhana’ music festival in Vijayawada for 10 days in January and it is really a feast for music lovers. Many up-and-coming artistes from various parts of the country and abroad participate in the event with devotion. The committee and the artistes must also consider giving way for new and budding artistes within the State. There are a number of young and talented artistes in Vijayawada city itself. It is time to consider encouraging the local talent.

Develop infrastructure

Though there are ample gas reserves in Krishna-Godavari basin, the Government has not shown interest to lay pipelines. Ironically, the indifferent attitude is only towards the natural gas, as the works to dig canals is continuing on a par with the construction of irrigation projects. Same is the case with power stations, for which the Government is taking little or no time to develop infrastructure. But, when it comes to natural gas, there the Government has not developed any infrastructure so far. Though people are using the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as fuel, only 10 per cent of the infrastructure was developed by the natural reserve. I request the authorities concerned to focus on infrastructure development pertaining to transport of natural gas.

Parties should rethink on MSP

Leaders of many political parties are making a hue and cry over the issue of increasing the minimum support price for paddy. They are demanding a support price of Rs. 1,000 per quintal for paddy on a par with wheat. I wonder whether these parties had a strategy to regulate the prices of rice in the open market after raising the MSP? One should not forget that people of this region are depending on rice to address their frugal needs; the cost of rice is around Rs. 16 per kg. Once the MSP is increased further, common man will have to suffer a lot to buy it for a higher price. I request the political parties to do some rethinking over this issue.
