Ban gory and obscene TV shows

Electronic media is a powerful channel of communication for an average individual in society. However, the TV channels have been over reacting and showing only one side of the coin. Independent media does not mean focusing an incident or issue repeatedly for a week. A balanced and rational presentation is expected from them. I suggest the Government to come forward with a legislation immediately to ban certain programmes like gory crime stories and obscene midnight programmes in the interest of society.

Need for proper property tax structure

The Government has introduced restructuring of property tax by Act 20/89 and framed certain rules under it. However, it did not yield expected results due to faulty implementation. Every time the civic bodies adopted high tax rates, it resulted in public outcry. The State Government intervened in 1993 and 2002 to restrict the hike to 75 per cent to 100 per cent. Now history has repeated itself. If only the hike is reasonable, it would bring assured income to the Government and the rate payers would oblige ungrudgingly.

Develop Dwaraka bus terminus

The Dwaraka Bus Station complex in Visakhapatnam city was constructed long ago keeping the requirement of the number of buses which were running then. But the number of buses has increased manifold and the platforms are grossly inadequate. Buses are now parked at different places and passengers are finding difficulty in reaching them. It is, therefore, necessary that more platforms are provided to meet the present requirement and the station complex should be developed to provide facilities.

Roads in poor state

Of late, the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) had indulged in digging roads and laying pipes for underground drainage (UGD) system. However, after laying the pipes, the roads are not taken care of. A classic example is our Agraharam Street near Panja Junction. The GVMC has not lifted the unused soil and sand which is causing avoidable pollution in the area to all road users.

Water supply in Gajuwaka

The erstwhile Gajuwaka Municipality offered 24-hours supply of drinking water from Kanithi Balancing Reservoir (KBR) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant for its dwellers on payment of Rs.7,285 for installation and monthly charges of Rs.90. Many people welcomed it and were provided domestic tap connections. But, after the merger of the municipality in Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC), drinking water supply has been restricted to less than one hour a day and sometimes there is no water supply at all, causing inconvenience to the people. I request the GVMC to take steps to regularise and enhance drinking water supply from KBR.
