This has reference to a news item on November 30 in The Hindu regarding illegal parking near the VJT Hall and the University Library. The road leading from the VJT Hall via University Library-Asan Square is busy but not congested. Moreover, only one-way traffic is allowed and the road has enough width. As such, I feel, there is no harm in using the eastern side in front of hotels for parking as it does not hinder the normal flow of traffic. Even otherwise there is no other parking space for cars nearby. It is the duty of the authorities to provide parking space for the public. In that area, pedestrians find it difficult to cross the road to the MLA Hostel side, due to heavy traffic. Police constables, instead of being posted to control the parking of vehicles, should be deployed to help the public cross the road. Jacob Thomas Pettah Install traffic signalIn Karamana, four roads join at the Nedumkad junction just after Karamana Junction. This is an accident prone area as the vehicles going to Killippalam from the latter junction may hit a vehicle taking a turn for Nedumkad. The authorities should take urgent steps to provide a traffic signal at this junction to save the lives of motorists and pedestrians. V.G. Balakrishnan Karamana Divert trafficTraffic jams on the Sreekaryam-Kesavadasapuram stretch of the national highway during peak hours is a common scene . This can be reduced if heavy vehicles other than passenger buses are diverted through the bypass from Kazhakkuttom to Kovalam. These vehicles can enter the city via Eenchakkal or Chakka without creating hindrance to other vehicles. Jishi.R. Palayam
