Information Commissioner inaugurates journalists’ conference HASSAN: “Like doctors, journalists too should update their knowledge and prioritise reports, with focus on social issues,” Information Commissioner K.V.R. Tagore has said. Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating the Karnataka Working Journalists’ Union District Presidents’ and Office-bearers’ conference in Belur on Sunday, he said a report by a journalist should focus on educating the reader. He said it was unfortunate that off-late political reports had become an obsession with the media. Journalists should conduct detailed investigations on social issues. He said the youth should take on the mantle of nurturing society and try making a difference. Mr. Tagore said financial assistance would be given to the Karnataka Madhyama Academy if it were to bring out an encyclopaedia on senior journalists. The former Karnataka Patrika Academy chairman and journalist Garudanagiri Nagaraj asked journalists to become more professional in their approach. He said adequacy of knowledge was the key to good reportage. He regretted that none of the villages in the 224-Assembly constituencies in the State were being focussed upon.
