Statewide protests planned to press for the demand

Many Kannadiga youths will get jobs if Sarojini Mahishi report is implemented

Centre accused of adopting step-motherly attitude towards Karnataka

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Members of Kannada Caluvali Vatal Paksha, led by its president Mr. Vatal Nagaraj, staged a rasta roko at Bhuvaneshwari Circle here on Sunday, urging the Government to implement various committee reports on regional imbalance.

Their other demands included classical language status for Kannada.

The protesters raised slogans urging the Union Government to implement various committee reports, including those of Sarojini Mahishi, Baragur Ramachandrappa, Dr. Nanjundappa and Vatal Nagaraj.

Protest

Addressing the protesters, Mr. Vatal Nagaraj said under the aegis of Akhila Karnataka Gadi Horata Samithi, a State wide protest would be held on January 2, urging the Government to implement reports of various committees on regional imbalance.

Purpose unserved

He said the purpose of unification of Karnataka and formation of States based on language had not been served.

He said a large number of unemployed Kannadiga youths would get jobs if the Sarojini Mahishi report was implemented. Mr. Nagaraj said that a demonstration would be staged in front of the Vidhana Soudha at Bangalore on December 16 to draw the attention of Government to the problems of sugarcane farmers in the State. He called upon elected representatives from the State to impress upon the President and the Prime Minister to fulfil the demands of the State.

He accused the Union Government of adopting step-motherly attitude towards Karnataka.
