Sir, — The long awaited Mangalore-Bangalore train service has fulfilled the dream of people in the region. It should have been introduced much earlier, especially in view of the poor condition of roads on Shiradi, Charmadi and Sampaje ghats. But the train is stated to take about 12 hours, including one hour shunting at Maysore, to reach Yeshwanthpur. This is too much considering that after alighting from the train, people will have to take other means of conveyance to reach their destinations. This will be expensive because the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and private buses extend pick up and drop facilities. People may continue to travel by bus because of these factors. It is, therefore, necessary that the Railway authorities initiate steps to reduce the travelling time. J.F. D’Souza Attavar, Mangalore ‘Well done Railways’Sir, — Our Railway Minister should be commended for re-starting the Mangalore-Bangalore train service, after taking nearly 12 years for converting the narrow gauge to broad gauge. I request the Railway Minister to address some of the woes of senior citizens. They are: start the train service from both ends at 7 a.m. to reach the respective destinations by 7 p.m. This will encourage tourism as the passengers will be able to enjoy the beauty of nature in the ghat section. Issue 50 per cent concession on return tickets in addition to the statutory concessions. V.A.P. Naik Vorkady Vibration on flyoverSir, — During peak hours, the traffic piles up on the Domlur Flyover which was constructed nearly two years ago. A slight vibration is felt when there is no movement of vehicles. The intensity of the vibration is more than what is considered normal. Structural testing of the bridge should be conducted to prevent untoward incidents. K.N. Raju Bangalore BMTC bus faresSir, — Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is meant for public service and especially the poor. However, it has often increased the fare and not even brought it to the notice of the public. The cost of an ID card is Rs. 50 and is valid for only one year whereas the Railways ID card costs one rupee and is valid for seven years. The BMTC is requested to reduce the cost of ID cards from Rs. 50 to Rs. 5 in the interest of the poor. The BMTC is morally bound to provide proper facilities to the public at reasonable rates. K.R. Raghavendra Rao Bangalore InsultingSir, — Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan’s spoof on yesteryear actor Manoj Kumar in “Om Shanti Om” is not hilarious but insulting. Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan have every right to parody cinema greats but they should know where to draw the line. Nobody has the right to ridicule anybody.
