District bifurcation: officials asked to submit proposals

PERAMBALUR: Union Minister of Information Technology and Communications A. Raja has directed the heads of government departments in the district to submit proposals for bifurcation of their department before December 31 for facilitating provision of additional infrastructure for the newly carved Ariyalur district.

Addressing the heads of departments at a meeting held here for reviewing the on-going schemes in the combined Perambalur district here on Sunday, Mr. Raja assured them that he would impress upon the State officials in Chennai for expeditious provision of office premises and diversion of personnel to the new district.

Viswakudi Dam

Mr. Raja asked the officials to expedite the execution of work on the Viswakudi Dam for which Rs.18 crore had been sanctioned. He also reviewed the progress of the work on the construction of a cotton research station at Veppanthattai at an estimate of Rs.51.50 lakh and a new bus stand at Udayarpalayam at an outlay of Rs.80 lakh.

He ascertained the progress of the combined drinking water scheme being executed by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply Board benefiting Perambalur and Veppanthattai at an outlay of Rs.61 crore.

Collectors Anil Meshram (Perambalur) and V. M. Xavier Chrisso Nayagam (Ariyalur) and the Superintendent of Police, Perambalur Prem Anand Sinha and the MLA D. Amaramoorthy, M. Rajkumar were among those who were present.
