Exhibition on bio-diversity held
Special Correspondent
THANJAVUR: A district-level exhibition on bio-diversity conservation was organised jointly by the National Bio-diversity Authority and the Centre for Ecology and Research, an environmental organisation here recently.
Students and teachers from 25 schools mostly from rural areas participated in the exhibition held at C.S. Matriculation School at Mariamman Koil. Students prepared models on bio-diversity conservation.
More than 1,000 students and parents visited the exhibition.
Authority Chairman S. Kannaiyan, who is the former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, visited the exhibition and appreciated the participants. On the need for bio-diversity conservation, he said plants and animals could live without men but men could not live without the former. Hence, students should devote more attention to nurturing plants and animals and conserve the bio-diversity.
Kamala Subramaniam Matriculation School, Thanjavur, got the first prize. The host got the second prize and Government Higher Secondary School, Membalam, the third prize. Mr. Kannaiyan distributed prizes to 15 essay contest winners and certificates to all students.
