Effective training given in script writing, shooting, producing, editing and vision mixing THANJAVUR: A Teacher-Oriented Television Education (TOTE) workshop was conducted at Swami Dayananda College of Arts and Science at Manjakkudi in Tiruvarur district with the coordination of the Department of Educational Technology, Bharathidasan University, from December 4 to 8. This is the first self-financing college chosen by the department to motivate teachers of higher education to have behavioural modification among students. Effective training was given in script writing, shooting, producing, editing and vision mixing by multimedia experts R. Karpaga Kumaravel, Dean of Department of Educational Technology of Bharathidasan University, S. Senthilnathan, Professor of Educational Technology, A. Vadivel, National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi and Rev. Fr. Susai Manickam. Every department produced a 15-minute programme on a par with country-wide class room programme of Gyan Dharshan. The constraints in traditional methods were identified and psychomotor skills were developed among the teachers. Rigorous training was given in alternate methods of teaching such as Heuristic Method (Prof. Armstrong Scientific method), playway method (Caldwellcook) and project method (John Dewy). G. Ramachandran, correspondent, said the college would be soon linked to edusat for the benefit of students. N. Seshadri, principal, said the teachers should be able to produce value-oriented educational films with the help of National Film Development Corporation. S. Ramamurthy, college director, said learning of the English language and literature should be made easier with the assistance of the Central Institute of English and Foreign Language in Hyderabad. In their feedback, the participants observed that they would continue their process of learning and try to find a new definition for education with the assistance of the web. M.R. Rajagopal proposed a vote of thanks.
