Naidu distributes blankets worth Rs. 2.5 lakh during the course of his visit to hostels Recalls efforts in helping Singareni Collieries make a turn around Bellampalli (ADILABAD DT.): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday promised a 12. 5 per cent bonus on profits to the Singareni miners on his party’s coming to power. During a road show at the market area in Bellampalli town as part of his Sankshema Bata programme launched here, he criticised the State Government for neglecting welfare including that of the miners. Mr. Naidu recalled how his Government’s efforts in helping the Singareni Collieries make a turn around from a Rs. 1,250 crore loss incurring company to a profit making organisation. During the TDP’s rule, the State Government had pressurised the Union Government for granting a moratorium of Rs. 642 crore for the Singareni in order to ease some of the burden on it, he said. Meagre funds allottedTalking about the welfare programmes, the TDP leader criticised the Government for spending just Rs. 11.30 per student despite being in a position to do more. Quoting figures, he said only Rs. 1,200 crores were allocated to welfare segment. That too mostly remained on paper, he pointed out. Despite temperatures plunging to below 9 degree celsius in Adilabad the Government failed to provide warm clothing, he added. He had, during the course of his visit to hostels at Bellampalli, Tandur, Rebbena, Asifabad and Kagaznagar distributed blankets worth Rs. 2.5 lakh. He assured of supply of more blankets if need be. The efforts of TDP to supply the blankets should open the eyes of the Government, he hoped. Linking the sale of lands by Government to welfare schemes, Mr. Naidu said the Government could do well to allocate the crores earned through sale of just one acre to welfare schemes. Earlier, the TDP president was given warm reception at all the places he went. On scheduleHe arrived at Bellampalli railway station almost on schedule and straight away undertook the programme. He shared lunch with boarders of the Social Welfare boys hostel at Tandur. Adilabad district TDP president Gone Hanmanth Rao, TDP general secretary and Adilabad Zilla Parishad chairman Rathod Ramesh, TDP spokesman S. Venugopalachary and former Minister G. Nagesh were among those who accompanied Mr. Naidu.
