Karunanidhi greets Sonia Gandhi

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Saturday greeted Sonia Gandhi, chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance, on her birth day.
In his message to Ms. Gandhi, Mr. Karunanidhi said she had been playing a very important role in protecting the secular fabric of the country and in establishing the superiority of secularism in the largest democracy. She had been serving as a role model of sacrifice for the Indian democracy. He wished her a long happy life and good health to carry the nation forward on the path of growth, prosperity and peace.
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee on Saturday announced that it had instituted Sonia Gandhi Award with a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh. The award would be given to non-government organisation, which effectively propagate in the State the achievements of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre. The award will be presented from next year.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy disclosed this at a function organised by the party in connection with Sonia Gandhi’s birthday celebrations, which was observed as “people’s awareness day.”
