L.K. Advani Chamba (HP): BJP leader L.K. Advani on Sunday said the UPA government, and not Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, was the “maut ka saudagar” (merchant of death) as it has failed to check terrorism that has made lives of people insecure. “Many people have been killed in different incidents of terrorism across the country. The Centre has failed to initiate effective measures to secure lives of people,” he said at an election rally here. Accusing the Congress of practising vote bank politics, Mr. Advani said that despite the apex court order, Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru was not hanged. The Manmohan Singh government has failed to check price rise. Corruption was rampant in Himachal Pradesh and “dishonest governance” was only adding to the miseries of people. Later, at Dharampur in Mandi district, Mr. Advani raised the Ayodhya issue: “When Muslims or Christians talk about their religious rights, it is secularism. But when we talk about right to build a temple of Lord Ram, we are dubbed communal.” He also criticised the Centre for questioning the existence of Lord Ram on the Ram Sethu issue. Mr. Advani had to rush from Chamba to the meeting in place of party president Rajnath Singh, who could not make it because of a snag in his helicopter. — PTI
