Andhra stages a comeback

Principal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: After a dismal batting display, Andhra staged a remarkable comeback in the final session to have Hyderabad reeling at 52 for five at close on the first day of the Ranji Trophy Super League match at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here on Sunday.

Earlier, Andhra was bowled out for 159 in 54.4 overs.

A high quality fast bowling display by Pydikalva Vijay Kumar rocked the Hyderabad top-order.

He made seasoned opener Daniel Manohar to snick to A.G. Pradeep at second slip. He also dismissed right-hander D.B. Ravi Teja and S. Anoop Pai.

Impressive spell

And at the other end, D. Kalyankrishna complemented his teammate with an equally impressive spell by trapping debutant Danny Derek Prince leg before and later having M.P. Arjun caught brilliantly at point by Sumanth who dived forward to take a fine catch.

At 29 for five in 12th over, it looked Hyderabad was in for more trouble but captain N. Arjun Yadav and Amol Shinde showed the discipline to ensure there were no more setbacks till close of play.

Earlier, Hyderabad bowlers got Andhra all out for a paltry 159.

The gamble of preferring an extra seamer (S.M. Shoaib) to spinner Lalith Mohan paid off. Medium-pacer M.P. Arjun was the most impressive of all with a teasing off-stump line.

The late outswinger which made M.S.K. Prasad’s stumps rearranged was an absolute beauty.
