KUWAIT: India’s best hope to gain another Olympic quota, the double trap marksman Ronjon Sodhi, failed at the final stage when he bowed out of contention in the Asian shooting championship here on Sunday. Ronjon Sodhi shot 42, 43, 46, for a total of 131 but it was not good enough to make it to the six-man final. Athens Olympics silver medallist, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is the quota place holder in men’s double trap. Rathore did not compete here as he was suffering from high fever. Vikram Bhatnagar took his place and he came up with 129 through a series of 44, 42, 43. Vikram Chopra (45, 42, 41) 128 was third among the Indians. Ajay Mittal shot the gold medal in the junior men’s double trap with a score better than Sodhi, at 133. He had a series of 42, 46, 45 and led a 1-2 finish for India as Mohammed Asab (43, 44, 45) 132 won the silver medal. In the junior men 50m rifle prone event, Akash Kumar Ravidas won the bronze with a score of 690.5. He shot 590 out of 600 in the qualification before scoring 100.5 in the final.
