Of sentiments and skyscrapers…

A painting and ceramic exhibition by two upcoming artists from Lucknow

‘Reminiscence’: A painting by Divya Pandey

NEW DELHI: Showcasing the paintings and ceramic sculptures of two Lucknow-based artists is an ongoing exhibition at Krishna Art Gallery here. Titled ‘Duo’, the exhibition featuring works of Divya Pandey and Shitanshu G. Maurya is open till this Wednesday.

Divya, who is a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Lucknow University, is displaying her contemporary works. “Feelings and sentiments are two emotional aspects of human life that change with times,” says Divya.

Shitanshu, who has participated in various group shows and workshops across the country, has come out with unique skyscrapers born out of modern sensibility. However sleek and fragile they may seem, they are “crystallisation of man’s aspirations”.

Speaking about his works, Shitanshu says he has a keen interest in the construction of buildings, their designs, elevations, technical points and the aesthetic sense involved in them. “So I’ve taken the subject of architectural forms. One can feel the edges and straight lines in these works that resemble the exactness and purity of contemporary architecture,” he adds.

Critic’s view

According to art critic Shefali Bhatnagar, an artist is most authentic when he or she mirrors his or her own self before the activity or during it. “The enigma of today’s artist is to create something new and relevant. Thoughts are individual and always change with time and space. Divya’s works are personal but contemporary. Modern architecture may also be environment friendly, though ugliness raises its head. But Shitanshu’s skyscrapers are born out of modern sensibility.”
