Road ‘roko’ against sewage plant

ARANTHANGI: Residents in and around Azhiyanilai resorted to a road roko agitation at Azhiyanilai village on the Pudukottai–Aranthangi highway.

They were protesting against the reported move to set up a sewage treatment plant for the underground drainage scheme sanctioned for Aranthangi municipal town.

Villagers fear groundwater pollution

The villagers said that the plant, if set up in the village about five km from Aranthangi, would pollute the groundwater.

Police and Revenue officials rushed to the spot and pacified the villagers following which the agitation was withdrawn.
