Sugarcane crushing begins

VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Housing B. Satyanarayana formally launched crushing at Sri Vijayarama Gajapathi Cooperative Sugars Limited (Bhimasingi Sugars) at Kumaram in Jami mandal on Monday, according to G.V. Ramaiah, Managing Director of the factory. He told The Hindu over phone that the crushing target for this season was put at 1.80 lakh tonnes and the support price being offered to farmers would be the same as last year i.e. Rs. 979.50 p per tonne. This was higher than the price fixed at Rs. 916 per tonne by the Centre, he said Lok Sabha member B. Jhansi Lakshmi was also present.
