Accident-prone area

On NH-49 Madurai-Rameswaram Road, frequent accidents are taking place at Perunkarai. It is regretful to note that last week, pilgrims from West Bengal met with an accident at Perunkarai and four died in the accident.

Perunkarai being the accident-prone area, I request the authorities to instal a video-recording facility on the road to help accident victims.

Power cut problem

The Minister for Electricity Arcot N. Veerasamy has said in an interview that the total requirement of power in Tamil Nadu is increasing, owing to starting of new industries.

This statement of the Minister is unacceptable because it is the Government, which invites investors allowing various concessions and assuring uninterrupted power supply, if they start new industries in the State.

Adding fuel to the fire, the Electricity Board Chairman announced that the board suffers heavy loss to the tune of several crores of rupees every year. Why should the Government make free supply to a section of people and tax the remaining, who have to pay through their nose a high cost for electricity consumed by them?

Sanitary condition

In those days, municipal, sanitary and others would go around the town in the early hours to supervise sanitary condition and other unlawful activities. Nowadays, this routine work seems to have been forgotten by the staff. Goats and sheep are slaughtered on Nochiyurani road without the certification of the sanitary staff, which is indeed a positive health hazard to meat-eaters.

Open drainage is not cleared even once contributing to the breeding of mosquitoes. Constructors of buildings pile up building materials on roads and streets. For instance building materials are piled on the middle of Sivankoil Sannathi Road like a mountain. The municipal staff have turned a blind eye to this.

Welcome step

It has been reported that the Anna University-Tiruchi will start during the coming years some constituent engineering colleges spread over 11 districts in its jurisdiction to provide quality engineering education affordable to students of rural schools.

Unfortunately, Sivaganga district, traditionally backward in all aspects, does not figure in the list.

G.K.S. Kandasubramanian,

Sivaganga.
