Two-day meeting of State committee inaugurated Focus on resolving problems in party’s structure HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked the party cadre to gear up for elections, which he said, were just about a year away. Inaugurating the two-day meeting of the State committee here on Monday, Mr. Naidu said though the party had strong cadre and organisational structure in place, there were problems in some places which need to be resolved. While an elaborate review of the various agitation programmes taken up by the party was going on inside the conference hall, outside, party leaders were seen locked in animated informal discussion on film star Chiranjeevi’s entry into politics. Opinion was divided over the impact of the actor’s entry into politics. A majority felt it may not have much of an impact for two reasons. Firstly, he cannot match the all-Telugu appeal of NTR and secondly the effort being made by his supporters to project him as a leader of particular caste or groups of castes may not work. The TDP president said no section was happy with Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He said the government was working only for the benefit of the rich, as indicated by the way it gifted away 84,000 acres of government land worth Rs. 95,000 crore to just about 250 individuals.
