More land to be acquired for Jayamkondam project

PERAMBALUR: The Neyveli Lignite Corporation has submitted a proposal for acquiring more land for the Jayamkondam Lignite Power Project.
The NLC, the implementing agency, has sent the proposal to the Special Commissioner and Commissioner of Land Administration, Chennai, for acquiring 8,979 hectares more, Collector Anil Meshram told The Hindu on Monday. The land was located in 20 villages in the Udayarapalayam taluk of Ariyalur district.
The NLC has divided the lignite reserves in the area into two zones: the north block and the south block. The extent of acquisition has been estimated at 3,686 hectares in the north block and 5,293 hectares in the south block.
Official sources said the additional site had been inspected by the Collector and the District Revenue Officer (Land Acquisition) . P. Vedagiri, General Manager (Business Development), NLC, who was here to take part in an official meeting on Sunday, said the annual mining capacity would be 13.5 million tonnes.
