Students showcase Tamil Nadu’s diversity

Special Correspondent

“We will have to keep identity of Tamil Nadu, India intact”

TAMBARAM: Students of PSBB (Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan) Millennium School in St. Thomas Mount skilfully showcased the diversity of Tamil Nadu in their annual educational project here on Sunday. Anna University Vice-Chancellor D.Viswanathan said that it seemed like the exhibition was presented by a team of highly qualified professionals.

Ever since the school’s inception in 2005, an annual education project is being held and this year, the theme was “Glory of Tamil Nadu in the past, present and future.’

Nearly 1,400 students were involved in the project that also included cultural programmes. Children of kindergarten classes showcased tourist spots in Chennai and the rest of Tamil Nadu. Students of primary classes presented the different dressing styles, cuisines, art, culture, beliefs and history. Students of classes VI, VII and VIII made presentations about the State’s geography, education, trade and industry and science and technology. There were also presentations on sports, and yoga.

‘Role model’

Lauding the teachers, parents and students for the show, Mr. Viswanathan said PSBB was a “role model.” He said he was impressed with the projects, which also touched upon the literary and cultural aspects of Tamil Nadu’s history. “We will have to keep the identity of Tamil Nadu and India intact,” he said. He also reminded parents that their role in children’s education was not just restricted to admitting them into schools. He told teachers that their work was not simply a job but a profession that required total dedication.

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Y.G.Parthasarathy, Dean and Director, PSBB Group of Schools, appealed to students not to be drawn towards popular entertainment and music that was cheap and crude.
